Patient Lists
A patient list holds the patients you round on: your in-patients as most responsible physician (MRP), the patients you follow as a consultant or while covering, or your home care patients. Each day the list shows every patient with the code that is usually due that day and the reason, with the Schedule page. You check the codes, change any that are wrong, and bill them all at once.
In the SnapBill billing app
Bill your hospital rounds or home care list in one tap in the SnapBill billing app at app.snapbill.ca. Creating an account is free.
Creating a List
Open Patient lists in the sidebar (under More in the app) and create a list. Choose:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Hospital in-patients or Home care | Hospital lists put the admission date and facility on every claim. Home care lists suggest K071 and K072. |
| Most responsible physician or Consulting or covering | MRP lists also suggest C122, C123, C124, the MRP premium and G512. |
| Visit codes for specialty | Your own specialty by default. Change it if you bill another section’s visit codes. |
| Facility, Service location | Used on every claim from this list. |
| Add the MRP premium (E083 / E084) | On by default for MRP lists. Turn it off if a hospital pays you for in-patient care. |
| Bill through | Your own billing number, or a group you bill with. |
Adding Patients
Tap Add patients, then either:
- Search for a patient you already have, or
- Paste a list: one patient per line. Paste from your rounding list or the hospital census, or choose a CSV or Excel file. SnapBill reads the health card number and version code, the admission date when it is written unambiguously, and the room or bed. Names are not read: the patient’s name, date of birth and sex come from the Ministry when the card is checked.
Open a patient’s details to set the admission date, the day you first saw them if they were referred to you, the room or bed, an OHIP diagnostic code, and Palliative care.
Billing Your Rounds
The list opens on today. Use the arrows or the date to go back to an earlier day.
- Each patient shows the suggested code(s) and why. Change, add or clear codes as needed.
- Tick the patients you saw, or tap Select all with a suggestion.
- Tap Bill selected. One claim is created per patient per day.
The claims are then checked and submitted like any other claim. If a patient already has a code from you on that day, it is left out, so tapping twice never bills twice.
To bill the same code for several patients or several days at once, select them and tap Apply a code.
When a patient leaves hospital, tap Discharge. They stay on the list for that day so you can bill the discharge, then drop off.
Which Codes Are Suggested
| Situation | Suggested |
|---|---|
| Subsequent visit (GP43) | Your specialty’s visit code: daily in weeks 1 to 5 after admission, up to 3 a week in weeks 6 to 13, up to 6 a month after that (for example C002, C007, C009 for family medicine). Paediatrics: C262 every day. |
| Referred patient | The weeks count from the day you first saw them. |
| MRP, day after admission (GP44) | C122, then C123 the next day. |
| MRP, day of discharge (GP45) | C124 when the stay is over 2 days (C126 offered as an alternative from 7 days). On day 2 it is shown with a note that it needs a stay over 48 hours. |
| MRP premium (GP47) | E083 on weekdays; E084 on weekends and holidays for the specialties that qualify. |
| Palliative patient, MRP list (J102) | G512, once per Monday-to-Sunday week, including past weeks still inside the billing deadline. |
| Home care (A59) | K071 up to day 56, K072 after. Not on a day you also visited, nor in a week with G512. |
Suggestions are only suggestions. Usage limits show as warnings and never stop a claim. Some codes are left for you to enter yourself: the admission-day assessment, C142 and C143 after transfer from an intensive care area, C121, concurrent and supportive care, long-term care W codes, and Emergency Medicine visits.
