Schedule of Benefits

The Schedule of Benefits (SOB) is OHIP’s official directory of billing codes, fees, and rules. SnapBill provides a built-in, searchable version so you can look up codes without leaving the app.

Searching for Codes

Navigate to Reference > Schedule of Benefits in the sidebar. You can search by:

Code — enter a billing code directly (e.g., A007, E502, C882)
Description — search by keyword (e.g., “consultation”, “ECG”, “psychotherapy”)
Semantic search — describe what you’re looking for in plain language (e.g., “assessment for a new patient”)

Filtering

Narrow your results using filters:

Specialty — show codes available for your specialty (your specialty is highlighted by default)
Category / Subcategory — browse by section (Consultations, Surgical Procedures, Diagnostic, etc.)
Fee range — filter by minimum and maximum fee
Code range — filter by billing code prefix

Code Details

Click on any code to expand its details:

Basic Information

Code, title, and description
Current fee (from the latest SOB update)
Specialty restrictions — which specialties can bill this code

Rules and Requirements

Age restrictions — minimum or maximum patient age
Required fields — whether a diagnostic code, facility, or referring physician is needed
Service location — where the service must be performed
Bilateral rules — whether the code can be billed bilaterally

Relationships

Add-on codes — codes that can be billed alongside this one
Restricted combinations — codes that cannot be billed together on the same day
Related codes — similar or alternative codes

Fee History

A chart showing how the fee has changed over time, based on historical SOB updates.

SOB Citations

Direct links to the relevant pages in the official SOB PDF, so you can read the original ministry text.

Favourite Codes

Click the star icon on any code to add it to your favourites. Favourite codes appear at the top of search results and are easily accessible for quick reference.

Using Codes in Claims

When creating a claim, the billing code field uses the same search engine as the Schedule of Benefits. You can search by code or description, and the fee is automatically populated.
